New Window Styles and Design Trends for 2017 in Honolulu

January 11, 2017

This time of year is the perfect time to update your interior fashion and window treatments with the new styles of 2017. Whether it’s painting your living room, buying new window coverings or swapping out furniture, we have tips on what’s in vogue in 2017 for home fashion and window treatment trends in Honolulu.

Dusky Hues & Pastels

Both pastels and duskier tones are seeing more use while clear, vibrant colors are on the wane. Shades of gray, blue and green are extremely popular as are dusty hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many hues on the spectrum are suggestive of nature from sky blue to Pantone’s color of the year, “Greenery.”. Neutrals are still found throughout the color palette with whites, grays and darker beiges balancing out the other shades.

Painting most of your walls in a neutral shade and then adding in pops of color with feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings may be one of the simplest ways to update the color in your home. Then it’s a cinch to have the latest colors in your interior design now and change the little things out when color trends adapt down the road. When assessing new window treatments, choose those in neutral colors such as Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a wood-like stain. These will blend in easily with any style or color scheme and can stay in place when you switch room colors down the line.

New Trends in Textures

Natural textures aren’t going anywhere this year. Fibers that are hot include woven rugs and baskets, natural or reclaimed wood, and twine. You’ll see these textures popping up in new places including on headboards, furniture, and pieces of art. Think of how you can incorporate what you already own and add texture to it like wrapping a frame in twine or making artwork out of old wood.

Adding textures to your design through window treatments add another level of interest to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are made from old, natural wood that was once part of doors or structures. The wood has unique twists and knots that bring an intrinsic feel to any home. Additional window treatments that add texture include Ovation® wood shutters or natural woven shades.

Metals

Accessories and furnishings that incorporate a variety of metals are becoming popular across Honolulu. Nickel, wrought iron, and gold are especially stylish now. You can incorporate metals in your décor by finding industrial, rustic, and/or retro pieces such as stools, benches, or light fixtures that are built from metals. Also, don’t be afraid to use nickel or pewter in your sinks or cabinetry for a more fashion-forward look.

Sliding barn doors and barn door shutters are a great way to incorporate metals and add an industrial or homespun style to your space. Barn doors are built of solid wood and have a variety of hardware to choose from such as rollers, tracks, and pull handles made from different metals.
