Learn How To Pick The Most Sturdy Shutter In Honolulu

August 08, 2016

A few weeks ago, a previous client reached out to one of our Texas locations. The customer had their home destroyed by a twister earlier this year, but the home’s Sunburst Polywood® plantation shutters made it through the ordeal.

The customer’s house had to be completely rebuilt after the storm, but there were only a few louvers destroyed on one shutter panel on one side of their residence. Each one of the other Polywood shutters in their house made it through in flawless shape! The homeowners are now rebuilding their house, and before long, the Sunburst store in Texas will reinstall the original shutters in their newly rebuilt home.

Hopefully, your shutters won’t need to survive a tornado. But there are a few things to look for when looking for shutters in Honolulu that are durable and will beautify your home for decades.

*Disclaimer: Sunburst Shutters doesn’t guarantee that their our products will withstand a tornado or other natural disasters, but this is a good example of the durability and resilience of our Polywood shutters. Read our lifetime warranty.

Solid Material

Hardwood plantation shutters in a Honolulu home office

The first thing to look for when you need a resilient window treatment is the material it’s constructed from and how it’s constructed. For wood shutters, look for products made from hardwood with a reputation for being strong and resistant to warping. Our Ovation® shutters are made from high-grade basswood and teak, which both meet these criteria.

When looking into faux wood shutters, look for a product constructed from a solid compound like our Polywood® shutters. Polywood shutters are sturdier than composite shutters, whose weaker construction can more easily cause damage and peeling. Polywood shutters are also resistant to fire, moisture, and termites.

High Quality Construction

A shutter’s build has a key role in its resilience. Polywood shutters utilize tension control pins that let them keep the perfect amount of “give”. They also have stainless steel staples covered in epoxy which are incredibly hard to take out. Polywood’s core is solid, and its joints are reinforced and glued , resulting in superb toughness. Sunburst’s Ovation shutters are the only five star wood shutter in the world and utilize two different types of joints: dowel joints and mortise and tenon joints, which adds sturdiness. We are the only place which makes shutters built with extreme durability in mind.

Sunburst Shutters makes it a priority to take special consideration in the measuring, manufacturing, and installation processes so that you receive beautiful custom shutters that fit your windows without a hitch.

Color That Keeps

It’s normal to want shutters that will be just as beautiful 20 years after installation. A good number of composite shutters tend to lose their color over their lifetime. Our Polywood shutters are encased with a protective finish that utilizes UV-inhibitors which keeps your shutters looking brand-new. In addition, a simple wipe down with a dustrag is all you need to keep your plantation shutters spotless.

Lifetime Warranty

Warranties are an additional key detail when buying shutters or other window coverings. When selecting a top of the line shutter, you would benefit from a warranty to guarantee your investment. Our Polywood shutters are backed by a lifetime warranty that protect you from any problems that might occur in materials, workmanship, paint finish, or installation. Sunburst’s Ovation shutters are protected by a warranty against any defects.
