What To Expect At Your Honolulu In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

To help you choose the appropriate window treatments for your windows, some companies, like Sunburst, start out with an in-home consultation. By bringing the treatments to your home, we can present how different window treatments would look with your decor. You’ll discover how natural it can be to discover the best window treatment when you aren’t in the unrealistic showroom.

But what actually goes on during an in-home consultation? And how can meeting a representative in your home enable you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Different companies may have a different agenda for their in-home consultation, but here is what you will get during your Sunburst visit.

Stepping Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Begin by scheduling an appointment by contacting your local representative. If you already have a shutter or window treatment in mind, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make it a point to show you a variety of options for your preferred treatment. We will also offer alternatives, so you can feel confident that your windows match your ideal.

After we come to your house, we’ll sit down and discuss what you need in a window treatment. We’ll look at your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency preferences, and we’ll discuss hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your representative will also want to know how the room is used and what ambiance you want to acheive. And it’s fine if you don’t know exactly what you need, as we’ll walk you through your options.

You may have to see many different samples to find out which coverings complement your design scheme and enhance your windows. Most clients need to look at a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or finding the best stain to match your color scheme. We’ll also show you all the options available for the treatment, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

After you decide on a treatment, we’ll find the exact measurements of your windows. We generally measure the windows in every room in your home—even if you only want to fit treatments for select rooms. We do this because most of our clients ask to be able to order future window treatments with just a phone call. At the end of the appointment, we will guide you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no hidden costs on your invoice.

Signs Of A Bad In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are confident that Sunburst will give you compentent in-home consultation, there are some actions you should never see from any window treatment company. It should go without saying, the quality of your consultation experience reflects the quality of the product.

First, your salesperson should respect your home. The rep should come to your house as scheduled, ready to present, and offer to prevent floor scuffs with shoe booties. Your consultant should always give you product and company pamphlets and pricing details.

When it comes to price, you should be given a detailed written quote. Don’t accept a vague guess, scribbled on a scrap piece of paper or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing estimates if they won’t measure your windows. You need to understand how much you should pay and why. Finally, look up references and online reviews to feel confident in your order.
